Oliso Iron Review & Giveaway

I don't know about you but I am pretty hard on irons. I started quilting and sewing about 3 years ago and I've already gone through 2 irons. Of course, part of that may be because my dog got tangled up in the cord and the iron fell on the floor - twice!

I'd been dreaming of using an Oliso iron for a while. I ended up taking a class at a local quilt shop and they had one available for use. I only ironed one thing but I noticed right away that the fold lines from my fat quarter were completely gone after just one swipe with the iron!

I decided to reach out to Oliso to see if they would be interested in doing a review and giveaway and thankfully, they were!

I've had the iron for a few months now, so I feel pretty good about providing a review. Please note that while I did receive an iron from Oliso, all opinions are mine.

Oliso provided for me a OLISO® PRO™ TG1600 SMART IRON (YELLOW). The iron retails for $169.99. The Pro TG1600 also comes in pink. (Get 20% Off All TG Irons when you use code "KW20OFF" - good through 12/31/19)

One of the reasons that I wanted to try an Oliso iron is that these are "smart" irons - they have iTouch® technology. Simply touch the handle and the iron lowers, ready to work. Take your hand off and the patented scorchguards lift the iron off the board preventing scorches, burns, and tipping. The thought of being able to have the iron lift itself intrigued me.

The first thing I noticed about the iron is that it has a little more heft than the other irons I'd previously owned. When I'd read reviews about this iron, people had commented on how heavy the iron was; however, since the iron "lifts itself" you really don't have to do a lot of lifting. The extra weight seems to help with getting out the wrinkles, too.

The iron has a tank for water if you'd like to use steam. I don't use steam very much, but I did fill the tank up once and used steam until the tank ran out. It's pretty easy to fill - there is a fill cup included with the iron - and a decent-sized hole to pour the water in.  No spilling for me.

The iron has a really long, 12-foot cord, which means that I'm able to move my ironing station around my tight sewing area without having to locate an extension cord or a new plug. (I just need to make sure that the cord is not in a place that my dog can get wrapped up in!)

Now - how does it iron? I make a lot of tshirt quilts (contact me if you'd like info about getting one made!) which means that I use a lot of fusible interfacing. I've found that with this iron, it takes about half the time to iron on the interfacing. That's HUGE! The soleplate just glides over the interfacing and the fusible sticks to the fabric very easily. I have had to clean the plate a couple of times because some of the glue from the fusible interfacing got on the iron. Other than that, it's been great.

I've really enjoyed using my Oliso iron. Would I purchase one if I hadn't gotten one to review? Absolutely! I have saved a lot of time. I will admit that it took me about a week to get used to not setting my iron on its end, but once I got used to not picking it up after pressing my fabric, I haven't gone back!

So - what about you? Would you like an opportunity to win an Oliso iron? Just use the Rafflecopter form below! (Can't see the form? Click on the link here --> Enter to Win an Oliso Iron)

  1. Besides the side filling tank, I like the idea of the 12ft cord best. My iron area set up gets traffic, so I have to wait until everyone is sleeping, or out of house to iron. With the cord on the floor, they can just step over, and I can iron when I want!

  2. It's amazing how stressful buying and trying a new iron is! I've eyeballed this for a while, I love the yellow color! I can't do steam with my current iron, it leaks :( so this would be wonderful.

  3. I’m stuck with a Black and Decker right now due to kitty knocking off my 10 year old Rowenta. I’d love to use this iron, I’ve heard they are amazing!!

  4. I like the way it pops up so it isn't necessary to constantly sit the iron up. I sometimes knock my iron over because I am always in a hurry and then it hits the floor. This would be great.

  14. I think the best feature is the ability to set the iron down flat, so convenient when pressing a bunch of pieces one after the other.
