Fun Gifts for a Baby Shower - Studio E Brand Ambassador March 2020

Hey! It's Mona here and I want to share some fun fabric with you.

Late last year I found out that I was chosen to be on of Studio E's brand ambassadors for 2020. I have shared items on Instagram and Facebook for my January fabric, but I thought I would share the March fabric with you - Owl's Woodland Adventure (coming soon to a fabric store near you). You can see a video of my "fabric unveiling" on Instagram.

As I'm sure you are aware, life is really weird and scary around the world right now. I'm hoping that this blog post will provide a little light in your life and provide some distraction.

When I first saw this line, my first thought was that these fabrics would be perfect for a new baby. I decided that I needed to make some items for a little one!

The panel is perfect for a little quilt. Instead of quilting this on my longarm machine, I decided to do a stitch and flip method. First, I cut my backing fabric to the same size as the panel. I spray basted some polyester batting to the wrong side of the backing fabric. I then placed the panel right sides together with the backing and sewed around the edge of the panel, leaving a 6" opening at the bottom.

Clip the corners then turn right side out. Press the edges well and fold in the rough edges of your opening. Top stitch 1/8-1/4" away from the edge. I then did some quilting - I traced around some of the characters and the tree in the panel. All told, I was able to finish the quilt in less than 2 hours start-to-finish!
Next up is a baby bib! I used my AccuQuilt baby bib die for this.
For the inside of your bib, you can use batting or flannel. I like to use a towel. (I wait till they go on sale then stock up. The bath sheets are perfect for bibs and burb cloths!) Whether you are using a die or a pattern when cutting bibs, make sure you layer your exterior fabric right sides together so that they will stitch together correctly.

Of course, if you have a little one, you're going to need burp cloths! I used my AccuQuilt burp cloth die with a towel for the center.

I'm so pleased with how they turned out!

Finally, I decided that if I were to gift these items to someone then the perfect gift bag would be a tote!

I'm not big on measuring, so I kind of did this on the fly. Here's how I did it:
  • You'll need a piece of fabric 18x34" for the body (pay attention to direction of the print). You'll also need two pieces of fabric 2.5x32"
  • We're going to make french seams so that there are no raw edges. Fold the fabric in half with right sides together so that it measures 17x18"
  • Sew 1/4" seam on the side and bottom
  • clip your corners and turn right side out. Press edges. Sew 1/2" along side and bottom.
  • For the unfinished top of the bag - with right sides together, turn top of the bag down approx 1/4" and press.
  • Then fold again approx 1/2" and stitch 1/8-1/4" away from the bottom edge.

  • This finishes the body of the bag.

  • Straps - take your 2.5x32" strips, fold the edges wrong sides together so that they meet in the middle, press.
  • Then fold the fabric in half and press. Top stitch 1/8" from the edge.
  • Fold 1" of end of your strap in and place it on your bag 4" in from the edge of the bag. Pin in place. Do this for both straps. Sew in place (see picture.)

You're done!
Notes: If you want a bigger (or smaller) bag, just cut your main piece of fabric bigger or larger. You'll most likely need to adjust the strap sizes.

You can put the quilt, the burp cloth and the quilt in the bag and it makes an adorable gift!!

Thank you for reading along. I look forward to sharing more with you soon!

Until next time - blessings & peace - and happy crafting!

    1. It looks like Fabric.com might have some. Check with your local quilt store, too!
