Moda Bakeshop Summer in the Garden QAL - Jasmine Bonus Block

Hi all - It's Mona here. It's been a minute since my last blog post - wanted to share the fun that's been going on over at Moda Bake Shop!

The Bake Shop has been having a Summer in the Garden Quilt-along!

The quilt-along has been somewhat of a mystery, in that you don't know what the blocks are going to be until they are posted on Mondays. I'm excited to share that today's bonus block is by yours truly (that's me, in case you hadn't figured that out!!).
My block for the quilt-along is Jasmine. For the this fun project, most of the Bakers have been using Lady Bird fabric by Crystal Manning for Moda.  I decided I wanted to make a quilt of all solids, so I opted to use the Bella Solids that coordinate with those  gorgeous fabrics.

Here you can see what the Jasmine Block looks like with the Lady Bird Fabrics:

And here is my final block using the Moda Bella Solids:

Here are the instructions for the block (you can see the full post on the Moda Bake Shop page - it has a printable pattern there).

Half-Square Triangles (HST)
  • Create 4 HST’s
  • Fabric 1 - (1) 8” square
  • Fabric 2 - (1) 8” square
  • Place RST (right sides together)
  • Sew around the edge using ¼” seam
  • Cut on the diagonals
  • Press to the dark side
  • Trim to 5” block

Rectangle Blocks
  • Fabric 1 - (2) 3 ½ x 5” rectangle
  • Fabric 2 - (2) 3 ½ x 5” rectangle

Hourglass Block
  • Create 1 Hourglass block
  • Fabric 1 - (1) 5” square
  • Fabric 2 - (1) 5” square
  • Draw diagonal on back of fabric 1
  • Place right sides together
  • Sew ¼” seam on both sides of diagonal
  • Cut along diagonal
  • Press to the dark side, resulting in HST
  • Draw diagonal on back of one of the HST’s
  • Place HST’s RST so that fabrics are opposite and seams nest Sew ¼” seam on both sides of diagonal
  • Cut along diagonal
  • Press seams open
  • Trim to 3 ½” square
  • (You will have 2 blocks - only need one)

Assemble the block as below:

I really like how the solids are working for the quilt. Below, you'll see some of the other blocks I've completed. (The patterns for all of these are on Moda Bake Shop site.)

It's never to late to sew along! Let me know what you think!!

Until next time - blessings & peace - and happy crafting!

Mona
